- Studies on growth and development of winter triticale, spring barley, wheat,
maize, soybeans, garden peas, lintel, yellow lupine, common seradella and
Spanish colewort
- Interrelations between seed yield and some selected morphological features
on plants (beans, soybeans, red clover, hybrid lucerne, common seradella,
winter rape).
- The quantity and quality of yield of legumes ( beans, garden pea, soybeans,
white and yellow lupine, red clover, hybrid lucerne), cereals ( wheat,

Experimental Station of Plant Production
Department at Prusy near Krakow
Prusy 1,32-010 Kocmyrzów, phone: (+48 12) 387 1015 or (+48 12) 387 1333
Head: Prof. Aleksander Szmigiel, phone: (+48 12)662 4386
Deputy Head: Karol Ledwich
Address for correspondence: Department of Plant Production, Agricultural
University of Cracow, al. Mickiewicza 21, 31-120 Kraków
- Total area at Prusy is 107 ha, including 12 ha of experimental arable area
utilised by 3 departments: Plant Production, Plant Breeding and Seed Production
and Genetics and Seed Production. Soils within I and II class prevail but
there are also those placed in the III a to IV b. classes. Cereals, legumes,
roots crops, oilseed and fibrous plants (winter and spring wheat, spring and
winter barley, oats, potatoes and vegetables) are cultivated on the farm.
The buildings house a well equipped lecture hall, mill, offices and utility
rooms (storeroom, storing area for corn, fertilisers and pesticides, a toolshed,
a workshop, a smithy and garages). The station owns a variety of equipment:
tractors, various types of harvesters , potato harvester
- Research work conducted on the farm focuses on selection of cultivars and
ecotypes suitable for local soil and climatic conditions, optimal density
and spacing of plants per area unit, micro- and macroelement treatment, dynamics
of growth and development of plants connected with the surface and durability
of foliage. Variability and interdependence of yield determining features
and effect of agrotechnological factors on chemical composition of yield are
also analysed
- The station is a didactic facility for students working towards their diplomas,
it is used for seminars and field classes in plant production, taxonomy of
crop plants, technologies of cultivation of selected groups of agricultural
plants, technology of agricultural production and soil science.
- The services offer includes: pesticide tests conducted on selected experimental
plots and other types of tests commissioned by tobacco or fat processing industry;
courses for teachers of agricultural colleges, organisation of agricultural
school olympiads. Its undulating terrain makes it a convenient place for land
survey practices for students and pupils of geodesic schools. Besides, corn
grain, potatoes and vegetables are sold at the
